DIY: Sending me mail

I've been asked how you can send me mail in the UK, and it's fairly easy.

Your address

Write your address to the envelope as you would for domestic mail, just add "USA" under the city, state, and zip line.

My address

Turns out there are creeps on the internet, so text me for my address. But this is how you format it, in the same place you put the address on an American envelope:

Kyla King
## Street Name
London, XX## X##
United Kingdom

Postage

You can buy Global Forever stamps individually or as a sheet from the USPS, for $1.15 each, and they'll accommodate a letter, card, or post card up to 1 oz. in weight.

Packages

A few notes here. First, it won't be cheap to send packages, so just prepare for that. I paid $70 one year to send Jamie a medium box of Christmas gifts. My parents paid $25 to send a bag of popcorn.

If you want to avoid that, you may also want to consider sending it to my parents' house for me to pick up next time I'm home/send with someone next coming over. It may also be worth it to make the purchase via Amazon.co.uk and use their shipping - for many items, this usually works out to be cheaper than buying in the US and then sending over manually.

If you do want to send something, though, you'd securely box it up, address it as above, and let your shipper of choice assist you with the logistics. You can select the tracking and/or time details that you prefer, and you'll have to fill out a customs form to include ON the package (so seal it up ahead of time) - they'll have the forms available when you send it and can better instruct you on how to fill it out than me.

I hope this is helpful, I'll update it as I learn more through trial and error.

  1. I feel so smart and with it because BEFORE you wrote this post I ordered some of those stamps so I could mail you (and a few others) your Christmas cards! :)
