Le update.
The visa came in, and I'm going back. Back to the land of crumpets and queuing, just in time to turn around and use the round-trip ticket from LHR - ORD we'd bought months ago and spend Christmas in the Midwest (land of high-fructose corn syrup and meth).
But, visa. What does this mean?
So, I'm not a citizen. Citizenship is an entirely different process a) that may not be necessary, ever, and b) for which I am not even yet eligible. I'm also ignorant enough when it comes to their political system that I don't deserve the right to vote. And I voted for Bush in 2004, so I may not ever again deserve the right to vote.
I AM still an America-passport-carrying young lady with a UK settlement visa, issued by the UK government, that allows me to reside long-term and work in the UK. In 33 months, I will be required to check back in, prove the legitimacy of my relationship with my sponsor (Jamie), and then be granted another 27 months - a total of five years. I'll then transition into something more permanent.
