Bust
My trip to Cape Town was unsuccessful. Actually, that might be an understatement. It was horrific.
Long story short, what I thought was a case of TMJ turned out to be a pretty severe infection that required two dentist visits, an ER trip, a cross-my-heart-hope-to-die deal with a South African doctor that I could come back to the UK for surgery only if I got a flight as soon as they released me and went straight to the A&E (UK's ER) as soon as my flight landed (I did), and five days in the hospital during which I lost two teeth, a pair of tennis shoes, 11 pounds (silver lining) and gained what looks to be a decent scar in my jaw where they had to install drains. My facial swelling is close to normal and as of today, I can proudly fit 13 stacked tongue depressors in my mouth (physical therapy for a tight jaw).
But I'm back and I'm well! Lessons learned:
- Listen to your mom. If I had, these teeth would have been gone a decade ago.
- Get travel insurance. You don't think you'll need it. Fool.
This week is slow. I'm working mostly from home and the local library I joined (use the library!). I signed up for a sewing class. London is experiencing a heat wave that doesn't match what the US just got, but they're complaining all the same. Boris Johnson is the new Prime Minister. I'm really excited about this cookbook, this documentary, and I'm living in these.
I thought about starting a new Instagram account to post pics of the places I visit but only want to do it without the like function because I don't trust that I'll keep my intentions pure. Googled it and found out they have that option in Canada! UK next?
