Isolation: Days 4-7
Hey, team! We're at the halfway point and still love one another. We spent the weekend being productive and lazy, ordering bookends and better dumbells and watching the new Borat movie (yikes), Adele on SNL (Has she always been this confident?! Also, loved her character breaks), and My Octopus Teacher on Netflix (I need to know what other people think about this!).
A lot of questions about what it's like over here and what we can and can't do. I'm sure the response would vary depending upon who you asked, but it's felt pretty civilized to me. While we can't leave the house for any reason for 14 days because of our travel, all Londoners are currently prohibited from socialising with anybody outside their household or support bubble in any indoor setting (source).
Rules aren't always consistent or rationale, but it means people aren't left to create their own boundaries and navigate the anxiety/polarization/judgement that comes with that variation. Mask-wearing compliance appears to be high, and maybe I'm just being naive, but there seems to be a collective social agreement in existence that provides some sense of order. That doesn't mean people don't question it, but they seem to comply. Maybe things would also be different if this was an election year. Also, please note that this doesn't include my thoughts on the long-term economic/social ramifications of lockdown.
The UK also has the added benefit of being really unpleasant weather-wise this time of year, so there's little temptation to leave the house and be social, especially now that the time has changed and it's darkish by 4:30pm. We'll see how the holidays pan out. We've been assured Santa is a key worker, phew.
Few other things:
- I've been considering kicking off a gratitude practice but would love to do it with someone for accountability. Something simple like starting or ending the day with a 3-minute reflection. Text me if you're in.
- What's your favorite pen? I love these.
- Though I don't fall victim to it, clickbait will always intrigue me, and my god I was tempted by this one! (Spoiler alert - I did a little Googling and they were foxes. How anti-climatic.)
