Habits

I was reading this article about the things all "healthy" girls do before 7am. I think some part of me hoped it might inspire me, but I was also intrigued: how does the other half of the world - those early risers - how do they live?

It was bananas. According to this, to be healthy, you should drink a glass of water, eat breakfast, clean a part of your house, make your bed, spend 15 minutes meditating, work out, prep your lunch, prep for dinner, and more by 7am. I'm not even going to link to it because I just can't advocate for that kind of lifestyle.

Instead, I've made my own list:

"Five Habits of Women Who Just Want to Get Through the Day"

1. Nap. For God's sake, take a nap. Maybe it's a 20-minute power snooze under your desk on a yoga mat, maybe you work from home and can actually crawl back into your own bed. Whatever it is, nap - nap generously, nap without abandon, nap without guilt.

2. Don't worry about making your bed. See above. If you're going to nap in it later, why bother? And also, you're going to get back into it in, like, 12 hours. Don't waste that time in the morning that you could spend on glorious, glorious sleep.

3. Wear comfortable shoes. And then walk on over to Taco Bell!

4. Shower only as needed. Showering's the devil's work, and I advocate for doing it as little as possible. Frequent showers are bad for your skin and for the environment (I hear). If you really believe that your body's a temple, then by all means, worship it through intermittent showering. Note: Baths are ok because you can lie down.

5. Keep your to-do list short and manageable. You don't have to conquer the world every day, so don't set yourself up for disappointment but putting that expectation on yourself every day. Make a short list of priorities for your day and then add in a few freebies you can check off to get the momentum going (Wake up. Brush teeth.) I'm even trying to set a good example by including only five habits here for you to remember - this could have been a list of seven or even ten habits, but I didn't want to put that on either of us.
