Like a proper tourist

I’m in the best mood, and I think it’s because of the weather. It’s bright and sunny and (hope I’m not jinxing myself with this) warm!

Life in London is truly grand. We are roughly a day away from the start of a long weekend (public holiday Friday-Monday), there are hot cross buns in the office (they’re not just from a children’s song), and I’m still riding that new-job high.

Speaking of, the new job is great. I’ve become obsessed with getting the elusive 10k steps a day, so I’ve integrated walking into my morning and evening commutes. Morning takes me by Buckingham palace; afternoon through Trafalgar Square. Both are full of tourists with selfie sticks and backpacks and it really does make me feel lucky to live in a city that some people save up to visit. I’ll throw some pics in at the end – I’ve been snapping them like a proper tourist.

Work took me to NYC recently, and the next few months look like they’ll include France, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Scotland, and Cape Town. I’m still geeking out about the free lunches and snacks (always the food), and my colleagues are smart AND funny. You really can have it all!

At any given moment there are conversations around me in French and Dutch, and 75% of my meetings are held with colleagues in NYC or Cape Town via video chat. Such a different environment, but so exciting. I’ve also decided to go by my married last name at work, and I’m still not used to seeing it on my business cards.

This weekend Jamie and I are getting out of the city and staying in a shepherd’s hut in the English countryside. The agenda includes games, reading, bbqing, long walks (his choice), and naps (my choice). I’m not really sure what to expect – watch this space.

Some other things? I had a honey peppercorn latte in NYC that I’ve tried (and failed) to recreate, I think I’ve mastered cooking chicken breast (brine! brine brine brine!), and I’m halfway through a 30-day ab challenge with both girl (in ATL) and boy (the one I’m married to) Jamie and thought I can’t see them yet, I trust they’re somewhere down there.
